Türkiye Takes New Step in Eurofighter Process as Maintenance Facilities Inspected

Preparations for Türkiye’s procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets are continuing. The Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MSB) announced that personnel from the Air Force Command’s Aircraft Maintenance Working Group and the General Directorate of Military Factories conducted inspections at the Royal Air Force’s Coningsby Air Base in the United Kingdom between September 15 and 17. The visit focused on aircraft maintenance facilities, maintenance and sustainment planning, technical infrastructure compatibility and cooperation between the two countries.

Türkiye and the United Kingdom signed an agreement in October 2025 for the procurement of 20 new Eurofighter Typhoons, valued at up to £8 billion. A separate training and support agreement covering pilot and ground personnel training as well as long-term maintenance support was signed in March 2026.

Training for Turkish pilots also began in August as part of the procurement preparations. After completing terminology training, the pilots began Eurofighter Typhoon flight training in September. According to the MSB, flight training will last eight months, followed by a three-month instructor pilot training programme.
